Since May 2012 I have been an Associate Broker and the Team Leader of the New Focus Team at RE/MAX Leading Edge. It is through RE/MAX Leading Edge that I do most of my residential sales.
I obtained my real estate license in December of 1983. In December of 1987, I obtained my Graduate of the Real Estate Institute (GRI) certification, which allowed me to sit for the Maryland Real Estate Brokers exam, which I did shortly thereafter. I was "dual licensed" as an Associate Broker at RE/MAX Leading Edge and as the Broker of New Focus Realty, LLC (my family-owned brokerage that we opened in 2006). We closed New Focus Realty in September of 2013.
I spent about two and a half years in the mid 1990's managing a RE/MAX 100 office in Bowie, Maryland. This was one of several offices which two individual owners had franchise rights to back then. The business partners broke up and reorganized their business. After the reorganization of the RE/MAX 100 offices, my real estate focus changed to other interests, including auctioneering (I hold a certification from the World Wide College of Auctioneering in Mason City, Iowa).
I obtained a Settlement closer license around 1997. I did home settlements and worked for several title offices in the area. I actively practiced for many years. Currently I maintain that license but have not been actively practicing.
In April of 2004, I began teaching with the Professional Development Institute. I teach the principle and practice course as well as many of the continuing education (CE) classes. I can teach all the Maryland mandatory classes and several elective classes. I am certified to teach the MREC Agency and MREC Broker Supervision CE classes as required by the Maryland Real Estate Commission. In addition to that, for several years now, I have been the primary instructor at The Professional Development Institute (PDI) for the "Broker Management" module, (currently called "Broker 1"). This is a 45-hour class, the first of a three-part series, that a licensee needs to take in order to sit for the broker exam in Maryland (not unlike the GRI series).
I have taught and presently still teach CE at the Prince George's Association of Realtors (PGCAR). I teach MREC Agency, MREC Broker Supervision, Ethics, Fair Housing and many other CE classes for the Association.
In 2013, I started teaching at the Dias Real Estate Academy. I currently teach all the mandatory & other elective CE courses, Salespersons pre-licensing and Broker pre-licensing classes.
In 2014, I became an Adjunct Professor at the Prince George's Community College. I have taught the Salespersons pre-licensing and written one elective CE class for the PGCC.
Additionally, I am considered to be an Expert Witness in real estate related matters. I am called upon, from time to time, to testify before the Maryland Real Estate Commission, in court and in depositions.
In August of 2008, I started and hosted a radio program, on station 1430 AM, WNAV in Annapolis, Maryland. The show was called "The Red Zone News" and ran from August of 2008 to November 2009. This was a one-hour weekly show that covered many real estate related topic as well as other general community interest issues.
Over the years, I have served on many committees in both the Prince George's County and the Anne Arundel County Association of REALTORS®. Currently, I am on the Legislative Committee and the Forms Committee for the Prince George's County Association of REALTORS®.
I am also the Education Chairman for the Prince George's Association of REALTORS® for 2016.
