Every two years, MD real estate licensees are required to meet mandated continuing education requirements and renew their licenses. Course content required is based on type of services provided: residential or commercial and your role.
If your license expires between 1/1/12 and 12/31/13, hours needed are:
| ALL Residential Licensees |
15 hours which must include 3.0 Legislative, 1.5 Fair Housing, 3.0 Ethics, 3.0 Agency |
| ALL Commercial Licensees (for licensees performing exclusively commercial work, must perform NO residential business) |
15 hours which must include 3.0 Legislative, 3.0 Ethics, 3.0 Agency |
| ALL Brokers, Branch Office Managers and Team Leaders |
15 hours which must include all of the above required topics (for Residential or Commercial), plus 3.0 MREC Supervison hours. |
| Legislative topic (Category A), Fair Housing topic (Category C), and Ethics topic (Category D) are required Maryland courses during every 2-year license renewal cycle. The ethics course must include MD Code of Ethics, Flipping, and Predatory Lending.
As of January 1, 2012 Maryland law requires all real estate licensees to complete 3.0 CE in Agency principles and disclosure as part of the 15 hours of education required for license renewal once every 4 years (in alternating license renewal cycles).
As of January 1, 2012 Maryland law also requires all brokers, branch office managers and team leaders to complete 3.0 CE in the requirements of Broker Supervision once every 4 years. |
If licensed in another state, Maryland may recognize continuing education hours completed in another state if the course and provider are approved by that state's real estate commission; however, they must meet Maryland's regulations - a real estate board, similar professional association, or educational institution; hours not less than 1.5 nor more than 6; real estate topics; dates within the preceding 2-year term; etc.
Maryland's mandated courses are applicable only to Maryland State, Maryland local, or federal laws; not other states' laws.
