ADVERTISING LAWS . . . Two new provisions of the Maryland Real Estate Brokers Act have been adopted within days of each other and will significantly impact all advertising by licensed real estate salespersons and licensed real estate associate brokers. Additionally, these two new laws will have a significant impact upon licensed real estate brokers and branch office managers. Click here and log in to Members Only for more information.
REALTORS® are now regularly sending out mailing pieces to advise owners in particular neighborhoods as to recent sales activities and sales prices. The information as disseminated by REALTORS® in these types of mailings is based upon the settled sold price and will typically include the address of the property and, occasionally, a photograph of the property sold. Of course, as an advertisement under Maryland, the mailing will include the name of the real estate licensee; the name of the company with whom the licensee is affiliated; and the telephone numbers and contact information. The mailing also includes some type of "tag line" to encourage the recipient of the mailing to contact the REALTOR® in the event the recipient is considering selling or buying a house. Al Monshower has provided us with information regarding this type of advertising. Click here for more information.
PRINCE GEORGE'S REALTORS® TO PARTNER WITH HABITAT FOR HUMANITY . . . PGCAR is moving forward with plans to partner with the Maryland Association of REALTORS® and Habitat for Humanity to build a house in Riverdale which will give a family a chance to realize the American Dream of homeownership. PGCAR will be responsible for raising the necessary funds and providing the manpower to build this home. This is a first for our Association and we know that we can count on our members to participate with us in this very worthwhile and exciting project. We are asking all members to write a check to the Partnership for Housing Foundation. No amount is too large or too small. All checks should be mailed to the Association office at 8400 Corporate Drive, Suite 225, Landover, MD 20785. If you would rather use your credit card, please contact Joan at the Association office. Thank you in advance for your generous support. Click here for more information.
REMINDER OF ETHICS TRAINING REQUIREMENT . . . The countdown is on. NAR's quadrennial ethics requirement gives every member until December 31, 2004, to take an approved Code of Ethics course. NAR offers two online ethics courses at REALTOR.org that fulfill these obligations: one for new members and one for existing members. Questions can be directed to: Member Policy Dept. (NOTE: Classes are also being offered by PGCAR on a regular basis. An Ethics Class will be offered at the Association Office on October 15th from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.)
