MD REAL ESTATE LICENSEE Continuing Education Requirements

Every two years, MD real estate licensees are required to meet mandated continuing education requirements and renew their licenses. Course content required is based on type of services provided: residential or commercial and your role.

Licensees must complete all hours prior to submitting a renewal application:

ALL Residential Salespersons and Associate Brokers 15 hours which includes 3 Legislative, 3 Brokerage Relationships and Disclosure, 3 Ethics, 1.5 Fair Housing. The remaining 4.5 hours are electives.
ALL Commercial Salespersons and Associate Brokers (for licensees performing exclusively commercial work, must perform NO residential business) 15 hours which includes 3 Legislative, 3 MREC Agency-Commercial, 3 Ethics. The remaining 6 hours are electives.
ALL Brokers, Designated Branch Office Managers and Team Leaders 15 hours which includes all of the above required topics (for Residential or Commercial), plus 3 MREC Supervison hours. The remaining 1.5 hours are electives.

Legislative topic (Category A), Ethics topic (Category D), and Brokerage Relationships and Disclosure / MREC Agency-Commercial topic (Category H) are required Maryland courses during every 2-year license renewal cycle.

Fair Housing topic (Category C) is required for all Residential licensees during every 2-year license renewal cycle.

Supervision topic (Category I) is required for all brokers, branch office managers and team leaders during every 2-year renewal cycle.

The ethics course must include MD Code of Ethics, Flipping and Predatory Lending.

NAR ethics is not a substitute for the Maryland required ethics course.

Attention Brokers, Branch Office Managers, and Team Leaders - Once a licensee assumes a supervisory position as a broker, BOM, or team leader, he or she will have 90 days to complete 3 hours of MREC Required Supervision Course, if he or she didn't already complete it for his / her last renewal.

If licensed in another state, Maryland may recognize continuing education hours completed in another state toward your Maryland ELECTIVES. To find out, email the out-of-state CE course completion certificate(s) to mrec@dllr.state.md.us at least 30 days prior to the expiration of your license. If recognized, the hours credited will be entered into your licensing record and an eNotice sent to your email address of record.

Maryland's mandated courses are applicable only to Maryland State, Maryland local, or federal laws; not other states' laws.
