The Real Estate Insider

By: Jay Webster

Having just returned, as your representative, from the National Association of REALTORS® Convention in Orlando, Florida I would like to give you a brief summary of what I learned.

The convention was a great opportunity to review and discuss current national legislative issues with  representatives from other regions of the country. Issues like high closing costs and "Smart Growth" are truly national issues. Our National Association has a tremendous grasp and focus on the legislative issues that are crucial in helping us as individual REALTORS® to remain at the center of the real estate transaction.

An RPAC contribution, no matter how large or small, from you is a good way of showing that you support continued legislative action that will benefit you and your clients and customers.

Technology! Technology! Technology! As I made my way through the exhibits I was simply amazed at what I saw. If you are planning to upgrade your computer or daily organizer make sure you look at all your options. I happen to like the "Supra" Palm Vx. Supra says that this device will be your daily organizer, lock box key and update your MLS information for you. This was just one of many absolutely tremendous tools that were available at the convention.

On the local level, I am pleased to report that all of our committees are in place and working diligently on several different initiatives, some of which are:

  • Cultural Divirsity Committee 2000 Agenda

  • MRIS® Statistics

  • Awards Luncheon Information

  • Revised Property Management Addendum

  • National Flood Insurance Program

  • Fall Legislative Breakfast Photos

  • Prince George's County Public School Regional Information

t    The website lay-out has begun and we will be online soon

t    We have met with the Board of Education and other concerned community leaders to talk about the superintendents vision for improving our public schools.

t   We have met with the County Executive's office and members of the County Council to discuss legislative and community issues

t   We have spoken at the Prince George's County Legislative Sub-Forum in support of proposed legislation to reduce County transfer taxes

We are making a difference at the local. state and National Association levels.

Finally as this century comes to an end, I would like to wish you and your family a very healthy, happy and prosperous holiday season and new year
