On Saturday April 21, PGCAR hosted the 7th Annual Maclin Fun Run. Over 150 runners and volunteers came out on a beautiful morning to run, walk, dance, mingle and network while, in turn, supporting the David and Juanita Maclin Memorial Scholarship Fund.
The Fund and its accompanying "Fun Run" are one of the Association's premiere community service endeavors. In honor of the late REALTORS® David Maclin and Juanita Maclin's contributions to Prince George's County, the fund recognizes a student's commitment to community service, based on the theme "How I Made A Difference In My Community."
This year, through the Fund, four Prince George's County high school seniors were awarded $2,500 college scholarships to the college of their choice. A total of over $70,000 has now been awarded in Maclin Memorial Scholarships.
Those receiving 2018 scholarships are:
- Nile Blass, of Bowie High School, is planning to attend Bennett College.
- Jasmine Booker, of Eleanor Roosevelt High School, is planning to attend University of Maryland College Park.
- Aniya Brown, of Oxon Hill High School, is planning to attend Norfolk State University.
- Umu-Hawa Jalloh, of Eleanor Roosevelt High School, is planning to attend University of Notre Dame.
Application forms for the annual scholarship are typically available in early January, and due the last day of February. During that time period, applications can be found at Prince George's County high schools and at www.pgcar.com.
